Values of Weapon Collections

We human beings are inevitably a part of the history, what we do is what we leave for our future generations. Many antique weapons though, are exactly the treasure that epitomized our ancestors’ wisdom and stories.

Very often, these things can be thought-provoking as they carry the former owners’ personal tales and bygones. Weapons can always stand for a splendid past of which the owner did something very memorable.

When it comes to guns, you either love them because of their ‘glories history’, or you thoroughly hate them for the same reason. There are always thousands of collectors that value the significance of antique weapons as well as their desirability among every current and potential buyer like you. However, many of the curios are being tagged super pricey by virtue of the fancy stories associated with them.

A good example illustrated below is the pistol which killed Adolf Hitler. It is also known as ‘The Fuhrer’s Golden Gun’, the tenth most expensive weapon ever sold in auction history. The item description pointed out that it was a gift from the Walther family given to Hitler for his 50th birthday in 1939. It is a golden revolver equipped with 7.65mm bullets which at the end of the day terminated Hitler’s life by his will after the destined failure of Nazi.

The golden pistol was sold in an auction held in 1987, a bidder who remained anonymous realized the irreplaceable value of the ‘Hitler’s End’, so he finally bought it at the price of $114,000 after a series of price bidding. However, the gun has since traded hands and if it will ever show up at auction again, even millions of dollars would be a piece of cake.

If you were there in the auction, we bet you would have been deeply seduced by the golden lion that executed Hitler just like everyone else there.

What we can summarize from this case are listed as following:

  1. The historical place determines the upper limit value.

  2. The reputation of the former owner greatly affects the valuation.

  3. The material of the weapon distinguishes its original price.

  4. The past of the people on its ‘killed list’ imperatively fixes the price.

Fortunately, unlike other antiques, antique weapons are much easier to certificate as there is a systematic way of recognizing

In general, to identify the authenticity of antique guns needs two notible points, which are the markings on the guns and the construction of the gun.

Recording any numbers, letters or design on the guns will greatly help finding the information of the guns especially when you need to check if the antique really belonged to some historical people.

Write down details about the material components, and identify the type of metal or wood when possible is another practical way to certificating as it can reveal the origins and production date of a gun.
